FT3 part deux

Barrett got a job in Missoula, so before he takes off I figured I'd take advantage of my f-unemployment status and head up to Placerville to participate in another FT3 ride before he takes off.

Tossing things out... including his bike that he was in a head on collision with.... a drunk old lady driver at 11 am... still insane that he survived with no broken bones.
Post ride at the Knott Hole.  4-2-1 please!
Inside Xterric's new Sprinter van.  Holy crap this thing is HUGE!

Ride Report: to Sutter Creek with Sigman

Fun ride with Sigman.  But these roads aren't very bike friendly.  It's good to start out early and ride in those hours when most folks are still sleeping.

This cold ride started out with a bang, as I went over a pothole and both tires went flat on the way to Sigman's.  I walked to the Safeway near by, but I couldn't get my fingers warm enough to fix em.  The tires were low in air, and I was planning to pump them up at Sigmans... alas... lesson learned.
31 deg!
There are river otters in the Contra Costa Canal!  City Wildlife!

Stopped for a quick brekky...
Ready to hit the bridge...

We parted ways at Walnut Grove as Sigman was on his way to Sacramento and I was on my way to Sutter Creek.  Here's a pic of the only other cyclist we saw this day.

I came out on this alley in Sutter Creek... and 50 ft away were Nikko with Mama Margie!

Fossils!

I left at 4 am.  At 5:30 am... I got all kinds of texts from Kimbo.
Turns out a moving truck hit a telephone pole and knocked it over.  The transformer blew up while smashing a car and blackout ensued...

The car... is still here a month+ later...

Run Report: Diablo with Sam

I know, I've been running a lot recently.  I think that is mainly due to the fact that I have some running buddies that are pushing me and are more up for runs.  Particularly Sam.  He may convince me to do some longer runs... we'll see.

Here was another fun run we did on Diablo a few weeks back.  There are tons more trails to explore over there so I want to go back.  Soon...

Wildlife sightings are always a welcome bonus on my excursions.

Race Report: Mt. Tam 30k

Entered a fun 30k trail run with Inside Trail Racing with Sam.  The plan worked out beautifully as Seth rented a house at Stinson Beach for Julie's 40th Birthday.  The race also starts at Stinson, so I carpooled with Sam to the start, we hung out at the beach, and Kimbo brought the fam to the beach.  Sam and I ran together for the whole race and we came in 4th and 5th.  The first 3 guys were in their 20s and 50s, so we won our age groups (me = 30s, and Sam = 40s).  Wundabar!  The trail was really scenic and in great condition.  A perfect day on the trails.  The day turned out really nice, and the kids had a great time.  Didn't take too many pic at the beach.  Was busy resting...

Check out this trip that Tyler (the winner) got to do in Nepal!  I'd love to go back there.

You know what is scary is that... the winner Tyler is a really good runner... but not a really, really good runner.  Just goes to show that people are amazing, and the top is very far off.

Yosemite: Running up Half Dome and Clouds Rest

"I run because it always takes me where I want to go." - Dean Karnanzas

Had another amazing trip to my favorite place.  Yosemite!  Sam, Rob, Seth and I were very keen on getting a trail run in, so we booked up a campsite a few months ago and made a great weekend out of it.

We went on a run/ride from camp to Mirror Lake on Day 1.

Cool rays egh?

See those spider web type things?  We couldn't figure it out, but we saw it all day when the sun was behind something like this... really cool.

Nikko ready to boulder!

Next morning... we got an early start...
We wanted sunrise on top of half dome.  There were 2 guys ahead of us.

Ice on Clouds rest.

Afterwards, we hung out at Swinging Bridge.  Amazing how much the sun affects the temps.  Back at camp, we were all wearing down jackets... and now... shorts.
100k!

Stopped at a nice Vietnamese place on the way home.  mmmm

It's been a while... so I figure I can post this.  Crazy folks from the top of Half Dome:
