I took a break from the mountains last weekend as Kimbo and I went down the coast to Davenport to celebrate our (4th) anniversary. On the way down we stopped at Pillar Point, where Kimbo and I previously took a sea kayaking class "open coast" from California Canoe and Kayak (highly recommended btw). This is the site of Mavericks, the legendary surf break where big wave surfer Mark Foo lost his life in 1994.
Mark Foo is not the only surfer to die at Mavs. Sion Milosky, also a big wave surfer from Hawaii, died surfing Mavs on March 17, 2011.
