4th of July in LA

after backpacking in the San Jacintos with the Vaillancourts, we had a few days in LA to chill and check out the town.

first we went on a neighborhood walk.  I love the dirt alleys with fig trees, fruit trees, everywhere.
This was one of 4 swings we found...
Crazy plants in the front yard.

and soon we found a place to get a haircut. 7$ for kids.  That's gotta be the cheapest cut I've had in the US.
before...
during...
and after...
we went down to Silver Lake to get on a pedal boat...
the brave/stupid folks got real close to the fountain and got soaked...
the kids needed a shower anyway after that haircut..
even soaked, they still wanted their helados.
We strolled back to Pat's to take an outdoor bath...

and soon it was prepping time for the 4th of July BBQ.  AKA, Nikko's half b-day party.
the green egg in action!
BOOYA!
Pat's studio...
didn't get too many pics of the BBQ, but had a great time, chatting with Pat's buddies.  Once night fell, the explosions started happening and we walked a block to the main street to check out the local fireworks, which were pretty spectacular.
