S. Sister with Andrew

Mandatory summit selfie!
Got out for a quick early morning foray while in Bend with Andrew.  As it was the summer solstice, we had plenty of daylight, so we figured we'd get after it early and hope to be back to spend the afternoon with the fam and friends.

The day started out quite unpromising.  A thick fog layer was basically dewing on us the whole time and we were unsure it'd lift.
We chatted a few times about turning around, when we should make that call... as we could probably still go home grab our bikes and go on a fun ride for a few hours.
Then the sky parted and the viz cleared just like that.
And there were rainbows.  Not usually a great sign for good skiing conditions.
Some icy, steep, tricky skinning on the ridge
Andrew with Middle and North Sister behind him.  I'd like to do that traverse next year.  I'd actually like to run it this year, but I may have missed the window.
Looks like a great ski off of Middle sis
We had a great looking ski down ourselves too...

After slarving primo corn for most of the way down, we were satisfied.
A quick boot back to the car...
And soon we were with the fam, floating down the Deschutes.

Here was Kimbo's workstation for the day.  Bowie sat there the whole time... or not...
Needless to say after that trip, the boys were exhausted.

Bend Shenanigans

Cruised up to Bend for the weekend to visit the Mooreheads.  La la land.  And it's quite awesome.  Had a great time hanging with the Mooreheads.  Floating the Deschutes, hiking, mtn biking, and I got to tag S. Sister with Andrew on Father's day.  Fun times.

Kim's work station...
Started off with a mtn bike ride with Andrew and Eamon on Phil's trails.

This is Chuck Norris... he's a legend in the neighborhood...

the river life!

Perfect weather!

after this long weekend... the boys were exhausted!

Greyback Mtn with Steven and Tim

Went on an adventure ride with Steven and Tim a while back.  I've been meaning to get out and do more exploring but... 2020 happened.  Anyway, here's some pics of the adventure.  Scratchy trails for sure.  But would like to connect this to Applegate or Squaw Lakes or.... Ashland via Mt Ashland.  That'd be a hell of an adventure ride.

Jelly cups - aka poorman's gumdrop, found on decaying conifers at higher elevations after snowmelt.

Some nice views including Mt. Ashland, McLoughlin, etc...

Everesting?? more like K2-ing.

Everesting was another 2020 thing... something you'd never do unless you ran out of options for adventure.  Basically, the rules are... you gotta do it in one ride (no more than 2 hr break), you have to pick one hill, and you have to climb the height of Everest (8848m).

So I did the calculations HERE, and for this segment it said I have to do 25.4 laps.  So I figured I'd start at 5 in the morning and be done by midnight or so.  Spoiler... I did 27 laps, just in case, and my Garmin stopped working around halfway through.  The elevation stopped, so on my Garmin it said I had done like 5k ft, and stopped.  By my calculation, I did 30,800 ft of vert.  Well over the 29k required.  But whatever.  I guess I'll have to do it again sometime.

Just for next time... this segment had some flat sections.  So the total gradient was only 6.29%, it got up to 14% in sections, but most of the faster rides are done in steeper gradient sections.  I should look... Dead Indian Memorial might be a good option.  Although it's only 6%.  But it's a consistent 6%.  But there is quite a bit of traffic on it, which is a bummer.

This one would be good for a dirt everest.

Here's my segment, fly.

I had baked two pizzas and drove up to the start as I'd need a basecamp for this attempt.
Here are the boys wonder WTF is daddy up to now?

Anyway... I picked a horrible day.  Well, the weather just turned out to be bad on the day that made the most sense to do this challenge.  It rained quite a bit, I got plenty of hail, and yeah, it was quite cold.  But I've learned from experiences like Orr Springs that I can ride through mostly anything.

Kimbo got me some take out Thai food from House of Thai, which hit the spot!!!
see hail
Quite soaked
We did get a lovely sunset.
