Central Oregon Road Trippin' - Part 2: Bend with Mooreheads/Dixons

After Waldo Lake, the boys and I checked out the bike park at Bachelor.  Just the kiddie zone.  That was fun for a few hrs.

The Bridges came up and met up with us for the next few days.

I believe this is Tumalo Falls... that Shasta and I ran to, while the fam biked.

Floating down the Deschutes...

Aaron had this crazy contraption...

We stayed with Lou Doo, Joel, & Mary pretty close to downtown.  We had some great walks into town to check out the sights.

And some great morning runs.  Shasta at the tippy top of Pilot Butte with the Sisters in the background.

Then we went up to Smith Rock area and found some camping behind it.  This was during a morning run.

Top of Grey Butte

Nikko enjoying the water at Smith

And we cruised over to Steelhead Falls which was a nice swimming hole.

Grabbing food & brews at Sisters

Lots of snacks on this trip...

A quick visit to Sparks Lake... which was really really low...

And there were leeches...

I love the "canyoneering" at Sparks Lake.

Found a mtn bike feature in one of the neighborhoods in Bend.

More treats

And more...

Joel got some too

Halloween in Bend '20

With all the festivities in Ashland cancelled (Ashland is a great place to be for Halloween... in most years), we decided to head up to Bend again and visit the Mooreheads.  We got in a day hike at Smith Rock, some mountain biking, squeezed in a few trail runs, a few family rides, and paraded around their neighborhood for a mini-Halloween.  At night we had the kids watching movies while the adults live streamed Phish from a garage across the street.  Amaze-balls.

Smith Rock!  Haven't been here for ever!

Family bike ride!

We watched Brynn play her last soccer game of the season.

Nikko!

on out last day we went to Sun River... which is la la land outside of la la land.  Fun bike paths, nice brewery.  And tons of things for the kids to play and discover.  Perfect last day.

cheers!

S. Sister with Andrew

Mandatory summit selfie!
Got out for a quick early morning foray while in Bend with Andrew.  As it was the summer solstice, we had plenty of daylight, so we figured we'd get after it early and hope to be back to spend the afternoon with the fam and friends.

The day started out quite unpromising.  A thick fog layer was basically dewing on us the whole time and we were unsure it'd lift.
We chatted a few times about turning around, when we should make that call... as we could probably still go home grab our bikes and go on a fun ride for a few hours.
Then the sky parted and the viz cleared just like that.
And there were rainbows.  Not usually a great sign for good skiing conditions.
Some icy, steep, tricky skinning on the ridge
Andrew with Middle and North Sister behind him.  I'd like to do that traverse next year.  I'd actually like to run it this year, but I may have missed the window.
Looks like a great ski off of Middle sis
We had a great looking ski down ourselves too...

After slarving primo corn for most of the way down, we were satisfied.
A quick boot back to the car...
And soon we were with the fam, floating down the Deschutes.

Here was Kimbo's workstation for the day.  Bowie sat there the whole time... or not...
Needless to say after that trip, the boys were exhausted.
