Pine to Palm 2022! My Second 100!

Was quite nervous about this as I hadn't been training much for it.  But I relied on my base and the fact that I did quite well at SOB 100k and the mental fortitude in watching Sam suffer at WS100.  Smokey, hot, epic day!  My stretch goal was to finish under 24, so I'm super stoked!

Ended up  12th O/A and 10th for males.

SOB 100k

Given I haven't put up more than 40 mile weeks this year, this race went really well.  I knew it was going to be hot and my strategy was to put my vest on at Potlicker and have 4 bottles with me from that point on.  Also quite nice to run the first section with just a handheld.  I did start cramping up about halfway and had to put down a lot of Gu and water to overcome my body seizing...

Lassen to Brokeoff FKT

Finally got on the FKT list.  This was an amazing day out with Josh.  Things all went according to plan until it didn't for Josh.

Monster Dash, Lewis Loops & Turkey Trot!

The boys at the monster dash!
The fall brought a slew of races for the Kuwabara boys.  EBM, then Monster Dash 10k, which was the farthest that they had run.  Then I got 2nd at the Lewis Loops 10k, and finally the Turkey Trot 8 miler, which became the farthest they ran.  Good few months.

The Mooreheads came down for the Bellview Halloween celebrations.
Can you tell I sweat a bit?
Cold morning at the Turkey Trot!

The next youngest kids were 14...

The Clarks came up for Turkey day!
Snow!

TRT Training Runs

Busy, busy...

I'll start posting here again for my mental organization.  I was training for the TRT 100 this summer and here's some of the more memorable training runs leading up to the race.

Big EBMUD loop... involving lots of thistles, fences, vultures, and dry hot sun.

Fun run in Marin with Sam, Scott, Seth, and Hank

TI run = flat

Beautiful morning run

My favorite mtn in the bay.  Always a good choice!

With Kai on his bike!

Mission Peak!

Found the ropes climbs from the papa's runs from many years ago...

All nigher with Alex and Sam.  Sam and I took BART into the city, ran to Sausalito Ferry, ferried back and BART back.

Dipsea with Sam and Ollie - this was a great event.  I'd love to come back and do it again next year.

Turkey Egg huntin'

Solo run in EBMUD property... and maybe some private, not sure... fun loop around San Pablo and Briones reservoir.  Lots of wildlife, not a single person.

Dyed some roses in the morning
The recent rains made these seasonal creek crossings a bit more interesting.

Found these eggs on the ground.  Only later did I figure out that these were turkey eggs.
They look like chicken eggs...
so I was picturing a bad ass trail runner just taking raw eggs instead of Gu and sucking down raw eggs like it was a power shot.
Oh and I also scared some and got a pic of this guy flying!
turkey feather?
Almost stepped on this guy.
Got back, picked up the kids and we played some pong...
my dream bike...

Yosemite with the boys!

Kimbo was a conference at the Tenaya... so I begrudgingly went...jk

Yosemite is the reason I moved to Cali, so I try to go whenever the opportunity presents itself, and I try to force that presentation.  Especially if lodging has been taken care of, which is often the crux.

Fri - cruising the valley with Kai and Nikko
This was the highlight.... plus I got to squeeze in an 18 mile day while exhausting the boys.

started the day off with a pic at Tunnel View
And a quick stop at Swinging Bridge
I love cruising/jogging around the Valley, especially on a weekday in the offseason.
I threatened Nikko that if he mis-behaved he'd be tossed in that cage.
Half dome and balancing Kai... he's actually quite high up.  10 ft?

This is at Mirror Lake.  This is in the fall, so there's no water.
The boys and Half Dome!

moving on...
Chocolate Milk break!

The hiking portion of the day.  Up to Nevada Falls...

Trail building art...

Top of Vernal

more "wild"life

Back at the village.  Kai would ride with the camelback while I ran.  The boys eating their well deserved popsicle after the 5 mile hike
nice fall colors
Sentinel
Nudy Booty time
Day 2 - Sugar Pine Railroad/Nelder Grove/Tenaya Pool
started the day at the near by Sugar Pine Rail Road

Takes you out to a place to hike around and picnic, then cruises back.  Probably worth it until they are like 5.

After the train ride, we "mtn biked" to Corlieu Falls.

Nikko struggling...

a decent spot... but with Yosemite near by, I'm sure not many folks come here.
And there was MUD!

after I got the kids de-mudded... we went further down the road to Nelder Grove.

the shenanigans continued at Tenaya Lodge
the boys loved the pool
and boy oh boy were they tired!
Sun - Day 3 - Mariposa Grove with Kimbo/Pleasanton Bike Park
https://www.strava.com/activities/1920012742

They had just re-finished Mariposa grove. They did a great job and it was a very different feel compared to Nelder Grove.
ID-ing pine cones
Banzai!
Yup... that's a big one.

Now you know why they are called the "faithful couple"

Check out that grove up by Tahoe.  Crazy egh?  That's the Placer Big Trees Grove.
The boys are great car nappers.  A fact that I absolutely love...

On the way home stopped at the Pleasanton BMX park.
