Second Family Trip to Peter Grubb!

After last year's successful trip, we decided to head out to Peter Grubb again (actually, we wanted to head to Bradley, but they mistakenly booked us for May... and it's closed in May...)  Turns out this year isn't like last year where we had to crawl into the tunnel of doom to get into the hut... and it was forecast to rain.  Oh well, we figured we'd go anyway... and we had a great time.

I was suffering from having run Mi-Wok the weekend before.  Doubling my longest run distance, but it was nice to stretch the legs and get outside.

More pics here
As a reference... this is what Boreal looked like.  Quite a difference from last year.
The forecast... let's get in early!
Hiking?  Wha?  Something we didn't do at all last year...

But we didn't walk for long.  Maybe 1/4 mile.  And soon we put the snowshoes & skis on.
Nikko wanted to hold my hand since he didn't want to put on his snowshoes.

C'mon Chik-Fil-A!

The kids explored the hut...
While Alexis and I earned some of the worst turns of the year...
By the time the Metres' arrived, we had sunny weather, and we were ready for some banquet beer...

Not too shabby...
Metres is allergic to huts.  That's him in the green bivy outside.
The kids with their morning hair.
Oh... and I learned from last year.  Caught 5?  I think?
Thomas = helper
these kids were building steps... also helpers.
the kids love this place...
the final kill count...
Group shot on the way home.

Nikko was trying to be a helper, but he decided this was too heavy for him...
Lovin' this guy's style.
Some carnage shots.

Everyone decided to walk after that...
Action shot!  Notice Kai is still wearing snowshoes.  As I'm still on my skis...
Decided to hit up the only restaurant on the summit!
I've gotta make one of these...
Kid's table!
Big kids table
These three decided to put on a show for us.
Until next year!!!

11th Anniversary: A trip to Estero Americano

at the put in by Valley Ford
by the Whale Tail for a quick lunch stop
at the mouth of the Estero
on the beach
Had a fun fiasco on our anniversary trip to Estero Americano.  The Dufours had our boys for the weekend, and we were off for some canoein'

Check out the Running Fence.... we were right in that area...

Took off Friday mid-afternoon to head up North to our AirBnB.  On the way we decided to stop at a brewery...
went to Porter Bass for a fun wine tasting.
And off to Armstrong Redwoods Park

Had some nice meals out... mmmm

Our AirBnB for the night.  This place was very tastefully done.  With an outdoor shower!
this is brekky the next day.
went on a quick run after brekky...
and soon we were at the put in..

lots of foot prints... raccoon?
good bird watchin...
lunch at the whale tail..

it got quite shallow at times...

and soon we were at the mouth of the estero

pretty cool having a slice of the California coast to yourself

we thought this looked like a shark.

We caught a nice sunset...
xtra bonus watching crashing waves on this rock...

Somebody forgot a lighter... but don't worry this story gets more exciting..

Yup... woke up, packed up... went to the boat... and it wasn't there.  The tide must've taken her out.  We figured there's a beach like 2 miles away that we've been to... so we opted to scramble over there... first we forded the estero.

looks a bit tricky...

at one point we had the blanket tied to a towel tied to another towel tied to Kimbo...
but she managed to fall anyway.  This doesn't look that bad, but I seriously thought she broke something from her fall.  Scary, scary, moment...
We finally made it back to civilization..

but turns out there's no Lyft or Uber out here...
So we found Sonoma Concierge service to give us a shuttle... the best 40$ we've spent.
And made it back in time for Danielle's baby shower.
We went straight there...
